Additional Notes Regarding DATA and FTP Transfers:

File Compression
All files should be zipped together in a zip file whose title is the name or part number of the project with the current revision included in the naming structure.. A "readme" file with quote and company information should be included when sending data files.

Binary vs. ASCII data
Files should always be sent in binary mode. Sending files as ASCII text will corrupt them beyond repair, making them unreadable.

File Naming Convention
Avoid especially long file names, or names with symbols or spaces in them.

Problems Accessing FTP Servers
If you are using a web browser, and when you attempt to upload the file, it
asks you if you want to download it, try this:

1. Click Start , point to Settings , click Control Panel , and then double-click
Internet Options.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, click the "Use Web Based FTP" or "Enable Folder View
for FTP sites" check box to select it.
4. Click on OK.
5. Now reconnect to the FTP site and try uploading the file.

If you are connecting to the FTP site, and your mouse is showing a little
searching flashlight (indicating it's waiting for data from the server), it may
be that you need to change a setting in the browser to allow "Passive FTP".
Enabling Passive FTP is necessary (in some cases) when either you or the
remote server is behind a firewall. To change this setting, do the following:

1. Click Start , point to Settings , click Control Panel , and then double-click
Internet Options.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, click the "Use Passive FTP (for firewall and DSL modem
compatibility)" check box to select it.
4. Click on OK.
5. Now reconnect to the FTP site and try uploading the file.
