Qualcon announced today that its ANSI/ESD S20.20 Standard
registration has been renewed by international auditor, QMI. Qualcon
was the first electronics manufacturing services provider in the
Southeast to achieve this coveted certification. The innovative
industry standard applies to the control and prevention of
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) which may damage electronic components
and assemblies. This certification assures customers of Qualcon’s
continued provision of the highest quality available in the industry.
Qualcon President Bob Bilbrough commented, "Qualcon’s
maintenance of the ANSI/ESD S20.20 certification is further proof of
our dedication to world-class quality. Our customers understand that
components and assemblies subjected to electrostatic discharge will
often fail in the field, which puts their companies at great risk.
ANSI/ESD S20.20 assures our customers that their products are
completely protected from ESD discharge while being manufactured at
Qualcon."
Increase Revenue by up to 10%
Independent consultants and corporate studies have found that
losses attributed to electrostatic discharge (ESD) can be as high as
10% of annual revenues with an estimated average negative impact of
6.5% of revenues. The international electronics industry will lose
more the $84 billion this year due to ESD.
Electronic products are most susceptible to ESD damage during the
manufacturing process. According to Qualcon’s Vice President of
Operations, Doug Philbrick, "Many are lulled into thinking, ‘We'll
catch ESD damage at test’. The most alarming aspect of ESD damage is
that it almost never ‘kills’ products prior to distribution. ESD
damage tends to manifest itself in latent defects that magnify over
time --- resulting in field failures costing repair dollars and
painful damage to a company's reputation among its customers."
Qualcon has invested well over a quarter-million dollars in
controlling ESD in their factory. The success of Qualcon’s efforts
have been certified for many years to the ESD Association S7.1
Standard by the 3M Company. On July 2, 2002, Qualcon became the only
EMS provider in the southeastern U.S. --- and one of the first in the
world --- to receive the prestigious ANSI/ESD-S20.20 registration for
our relentless control of ESD.
